The second largest country in South America, boasting 30 national parks, the world’s most Southernly city (Ushuaia), the jumping off point for Antartica and home to the vast majority of Patagonia. Argentina is a paradise for those who love adventure.
Much of the country can be bitterly cold, but the warmth of the people more than makes up for that. It’s a country which deserves some time to be explored properly, we spent over a month here and still didn’t see everything we wanted to.
For a more in depth look at Patagonia check out our Patagonia page which has a more comprehensive rundown of the area.
Eat Steak. This is where it pays to be a ‘flexitarian’. Even as non meat eaters, we had to try it. It didn’t disappoint. The empanadas are equally delicious.
Sleep Palermo, Buenos Aires. Hipster cafes, cocktail bars, great nightlife and a plethora of shops, Palermo is a great base when in the country’s capital.
Try To get to a football match. If you think Europeans are passionate about football then you’ll be blown away in Argentina. We were lucky enough to be there when the World Cup was on and the country game to a standstill to watch Messi and co. But Buenos Aires is home to several top clubs including Maradona’s own Boca Juniors.
Do Think about using Beunos Aires as the start of end point if you’re planning a trip to South America. Norwegian Airlines fly from London to Buenos Aires for as little as £299 return making it an ideal first or final destination.
Don’t Underestimate when it comes to budgeting. Argentina is expensive. Their economy is in poor shape travellers will likely be frustrated with extortionate ATM withdrawal fees and withdrawal limits.
