A land once said to be inhabited by giants – mythical people known as Patagons who were said to be up to 20 feet tall. This race of gentle giants has long vanished, but they have left behind some of the most breathtaking scenery on Earth.
Covering more than a million square kilometres over Chile and Argentina, there’s enough incredible scenery here for a lifetime. Unfortunately we only had a little over a month to explore it’s beauty, but we are so glad we did. Patagonia is probably the most incredible corner of this planet that we have been lucky enough to spend time in.
Eat Steak. This is where it pays to be a ‘flexitarian’. Even as non meat eaters, we had to try it. It didn’t disappoint.
Sleep There’s an abundance of amazing hostels, but our favourites were We Are Patagonia, Puerto Natales and Hi Patagonia, Puerto Madryn.
Try Mate. You can’t avoid this local drink, Everyone, and we mean everyone, drinks it. If nothing else it will help to keep you warm!
Do Plan. Patagonia is vast and it takes some planning to get around, especially in winter where services, transport and in some cases whole towns close down for the winter months.
Don’t Spend all your money before you get there. It’s not cheap, and though many national parks are free, you will some extra cash for special excursions.
